short takes

"Gentlemen, history will be kind to us, because I plan to write it."
-- Winston Churchill

Randy Rhodes: On a program last week she lit a bulb over my head: she analyzed an Orwellian meme the rightwingnuts are repeating: "A ceasefire will only give the enemy time to regroup and rearm."
What does that mean? Eternal war. In other words War is Peace. Straight out of 1984.

"Disentangling Israeli interests from the rubble of neocon "creative destruction" in the Middle East has become an urgent challenge for Israeli policy-makers. An America that seeks to reshape the region through an unsophisticated mixture of bombs and ballots, devoid of local contextual understanding, alliance-building or redressing of grievances, ultimately undermines both itself and Israel."
-- Daniel Levy

Gore Vidal, words of wisdom: "I love my republic, but I hate my empire. Don't confuse the two."

I'm wondering again why the self described ex-Trotskyite Neo-cons who want to reshape the world through "creative destruction" and the "free market" are so hateful of Liberal Collectivism, while all the time they are supporting (with our taxpayer money, that they aspire to skim off of the middle class, not their own wealthy ruling class, btw)... are supporting the biggest welfare state in the world, Israel, a country that openly and proudly practices (hiss boo)collectivism, which is communism (the kibutz system.)
Please explain.
