the GOP Logic Button is completely dysfunctional

A few thoughts on the morning news:

1*The American Taxpayer spends as much on weapons and military as the rest of the world's countries, combined, do.
Didn't President Eisenhower warn us about this?

2**If North Korea tests a long range missile, why don't we just test our Star Wars Missile Defense Shield! After all, after the Vietnam War ended, and the Berlin Wall fell, we were supposed to reap the riches of The Peace Dividend.
We could have spent our our peace bonus on good infrastructure stuff, like education and health care, and restoring our cities and roads which had gone derelict, and cleaning up the toxic residues left by industries that will be poison in our genetics forever it seems. We could have had a shining solar city on a hill, but Saint Ronnie decided we needed a Star Wars Missile Defense Shield and a tax cut for rich guys.

So WTF!
I propose... Let's USE that very Star Wars Missile Defense Shield that Saint Ronnie so presciently provided for us!

Let's see what we paid for! Come On, Guys, show us the money!

3***How can you vote for this in wartime? 19 GOP Senators voted to give amnesty to the killers of American soldiers in Iraq. Check the link to see who voted which way... Sigh.

4****Right-wingnut Blogs were read on BBC this morning. Apparently NPR thinks Americans are too stupid to READ weblogs, so they have to be read for us.
From the gist of the reading, I'd say the r-w'nuts are outraged that we do not "fight dirty" in Iraq. They say it is horrible that we are criminally trying three G.I.s for murder, and the insurgents who killed the two "kidnapped" G.I.s are getting off scot free.

First, by the way, when soldiers are fighting in a "Long War" (that's Rummsy's new label for Bush's War, catapulted to get us away from the used up term, "War on Terror", which is an impossibility, since wars are fought between nations, not between a nation and a technique.) As I was saying, when soldiers are fighting in a war, are they not "captured"? not as the corp-media echoed "kidnapped"...
Capture is a war term, kidnap is a civilian term.
Newspeak, propaganda, spin.

May I correct the logic problem for the r-w'nut bloggers?

1. We "fight the good fight" because that is part of our patriotic mythos. Our low paid, ill-eqipped soldiers are supposed to be the good guys. Duh.
And don't think we aren't fighting dirty. The insurgents aren't the only gangs operating under the cover of Iraq's chaos. We hire contractors to do our bad dirty work, and they cost a LOT, mainly because they are owned by Bush Crime Family cronies.

2. Trying G.I.s for going overboard and killing people in a war zone is ALL for SHOW, just like trying the guards for prisoner abuse. We sacrifice a few lambs so the lords can feast.
Why get yer knickers in a twist? it is YOUR bunch in the administration that is doing all the show trials, so they must think it is worth the price.

And now for the logic gap: the criminals who "kidnapped" and killed the two soldiers are not being "let off scot free". If we manage to capture them, they'll pay. Logically, how can you demand we punish someone we haven't caught! Shawn and Rush and that Savage idiot have fried your circuits. Double DUH.

5*****Same BBC program again: Newsweek's European editor discussing the gap between beliefs and perceptions between the U.S. of A. and Europe...He bemoaned our isolationism.
His illustration was that after 9-11 we didn't become more interested in signing up for Islamic language courses.
What a putz.

Honey, I had enough problems with French and German.
And most Americans don't even want to be confronted with the idea that half of this continent speaks Spanish.
I admire just about everything European, though. It's just a bit pricey.

I admit to being Hopelessly Midwestern.
I like to watch travelogues, but we can't afford the overseas trips that you upper class folks take so casually, as your due. We have to put our kids through school and pay the mortgage on a Midwestern Salary. And save for retirement without the security of the defined benefit contracts that we once considered firm... or Social Security, if the GOP gets it's way in dismantling that so-called nanny state socialist welfare program.

I enjoy other cultures from a distance, and when I hear about how upper class people sometimes are regarded as "Ugly American" supercilious rude boors in Europe, I say to myself, "they got THAT right."
I don't need to invade other countries, overtly or covertly, or rule their natural resources to be fulfilled. I wasn't surprised, like Condi and George were, by 9-11.

I am proud to be a traditional grass-roots populist.
I freely admit I am an isolationist.
No one has proved to me yet that world domination has been historically good for me or mine.

War has only benefitted the fat cats.

Overseas intrigue has only benefitted the business class and the political class who are supported by the business lobbies.

A Hopelessly Midwestern says, if the price of oil is too high, I'll pay for what I use and learn conservation.

Instead of a national "black budget" for imperialism (another name for welfare for corporations), I'd rather have my tax dollars support technological research, like we did once upon a time with the space race and the moon shot, to find a way to get off the fossil fuel habit.
American ingenuity should have gone to building an "off the grid" infrastructure after Jimmy Carter's beginning initiatives.
We have lost our way for thirty years.

Remember when Saint Ronnie pulled the solar collectors off of the roof of the White House, as symbols of defeatism?
We have a really good expensive Star Wars Missile Defense Shield.
That sucker better work.

Maybe some Midwestern common sense is called for here, and soon.
